The patriarch gets along pretty well and is ready for a second life. Concorde number 5, registrated F-BVFA, is just coming out from a hangar the width of a cathedral where during one year she was in the hands of the men in charge of the D check.
Since her first flight on January 21 1976, she covered 20 millions of kilometers (10 800 000 nautical miles) first of the six french supersonics to enter in that big check. It`s an Herculean work which will require 40 000 hours time. It began in Orly where the plane has been cleaned off before being painted in khaki at Roissy to prevent corrosion. Put on jacks she has been entirely stripped down to her carcass. Everything has been passed to X-rays, 94 windows, 200 check doors, 13 tanks, in order to trace any crack which means weakness.

Phileas Fogg, a character of the novel from Jules Verne has to make a round the world in 80 days playing with change of date while crossing meridian 180. Idea is even better aboard the only supersonic passenger plane flying so high in the sky you won`t never seen any other plane. Her first round the world trip has just ended in Roissy.
Captains Michel Ferry and Gérard Le Galès have brought their 94 passengers, at an average speed of 810 kts (1 500 km/h) on schedule, in a fantastic tour through New York, Auckland, Honolulu, Papeete, Sydney, Jakarta, Bangkok, Colombo, Bahreïn and back to Paris. The trip took 18 days, each stage giving opportunities for munificent festivities. Total flight time 31 h 51 mn from which 17 h 58 in supersonic. For a fare of 20 800 dollars (130 000 FF) you could get the kind of dream and unfamiliarity Concorde can offer.
